How do you think I got the grip of steel as a young boy. Did this all the time for a family of eight.

Love this forum: anyone could learn a lot here about making wine. I just hope to give a little perspective to the whole thing. Everyone today has a gripe about something and many rightly so. Social media can be, and has been a format to slam some injustices that have happened to them. There are...

How much wine do you make? (2024)

I make about 50 gallons of wine per year. Trouble is, it's done in my apartment and storage is iffy. I'm not a paint by numbers kind of guy so I make scratch wine from spices, flowers and other things. Experiments are in one gallon size, then if it seems very worthy I make 2.5 gallon sizes, and...

    My worst fear...realized.

I can actually taste your chard! I would not just give up on glass carboys. They have served well and are easy to clean. I too have lost wine. I had 2 23litre carboys of delicious lácadie blanc almost ready to bottle, but put outside overnight to do a final acid reduction. Trouble was it was -20...

    What's in your glass tonight?

I did exactly that. What it taught me was there is a lot to wine and a better idea of how to make it. It taught me to tinker before, during and especially after. I never take what it gives me, I tell it what to do. If it's not where I want, I now know how or what to add to change that. Seldom do...

Totally new to wine making.. Chokecherry wine!

You are well on your way as a winemaker. Most of us fall into the "ready, shoot, aim"category in that we say next time I'm going to ............ The only thing I would suggest changing is the blender routine with all those razor blades chewing up the seeds in the chokecherries and raisins too...

    New Here

To me winemaking is like cooking steak. It's what you do before, during and after that makes all the difference in the world. Very subjective, so I'm careful not to speak in absolutes, because each person likes his own amount of salt, pepper and ketchup.

    New Here

New here but not new to winemaking. Have a good 50 years experience. Took a sommelier course. Wanted to make and taste wine; not sell or serve it. I do private tastings with friends and value others opinions. I need more winemakers in my life and less yeast sprinklers. I do kits but ALWAYS...
