I have been trying to find the 7.9 Gal Primary buckets at restaurants, bakeries with no success. Has anyone found a good FREE source for these buckets? I have found plenty of 5 gal pickle buckets. These are fine for equipment cleaning, once you get rid of the pickle stench, blah. I know i can spend the $18 to buy a 7.9 bucket but hope to save the money on more important things,,, like wine.
:d

Try a bakery. Wal-mart bakery, Schnuck's/Dierbergs bakery, or your local grocery store that contains a bakery.

Most of the ones i have found there are 5 gallon though.

I would just buy a couple regular ones and be set for years of use. They are good for many batches. If you divide the cost among all those wines, it figures close to free. You get the convenience of fitting a whole kit in one bucket. Now fruit wines is another matter and 5 gallon buckets are handy to split batches up. I also use the 5 gallon buckets for doing 3 gallon batches.

You are probably right, when life deals you 5 gallon buckets, make 3 gallons of wine.:>:>

you can normally do 4 gallon fairly easy in the 5 gallon buckets

I get mine from Sam's club and use the daylights out of them (thats hick for using them alot)

I have been working in restaurants for 28 years and have never seen a bucket bigger than 5 gallons, smaller, but never bigger. Bakeries get frostings / icings/ fillings in 2.5 - 3 gallon buckets.

The 7.9 gallon buckets are pretty much specially made for brewing so youre not really going to find them around. Ive had 2 of mine for 7 years about and its time to retire them and get some new ones.

I have one of the 7.8 or 7.9, and a few of the 5 gallon. Use the 5 gallon buckets more. Kinda wish I had bigger carboys. only 1 6gallon. 5 in the 3 and 4 gallon sizes.
