A new procedures for schools

Today I did something at work that I never thought we would ever do. I participated in a lockdown drill. This will the first and from this point on we will always have them. I spent most of the morning calming secretaries and giving them a plan to follow. The district office is attached to our K - 3 grade school and today was when the primary was to do their drill. I was so surprised on how well this little darlings did in this drill. I am also proud that not only did our local police take part but so did neighboring township police and our state police as well.

Thats pretty cool Julie. When I was that age we had to go the basement as a fall out shelter in case of attack.

We've had both lockdown drills and real lockdowns here, since i was in elementary school.. They've been a fixture in schooling here for a while now

Thats cool that you had multiple police resources working together though - theres more oversight.. Our police force here is so over-juiced and close enough to being the biggest gang in the city, that they do everything from these drills to tackling a top-10 cali-most-wanted (that, happened about 4 doors down, on my street) without calling in any help or assistance..

We've had police officers in our middle & high schools instead of security guards, for years as well... Granted theres been no serious incidents, minus a few stabbings/knives & an oddball who ran from cops by driving through the student parking lot and right across the football field towards the wetlands.. Didnt work..

And the kids seem to make a bit of a game out of it, by trying to call in fake bomb threats on test days

Our community is a very small and quite community. Violence in our high school is very low. Some kid bringing his moms sleeping pills is probably the worst we get. Today The premise was that we had an armed gunman in the building. While everything went well, we did fine areas that we need to tweak.
