Made a lot of good wine in the 2000s and early 2010s. Gave it up temporarily for odd reasons--one of which was building my retirement home on a field in the back country. Lived in a camper--in Minnesota--over the Winter--on a hill--in a field while the shell was being completed. My well, washing machine/dryer, water filter, were all kept from freezing in a fishing icehouse with a Buddy heater. I DO NOT recommend it, but it tells you what kind of person I am. I finished my wine room a month ago so started my first batch in about ten years. Cab sauv is getting bottled later today. Looks good. The Skeeter Pee with cab sauv sklurry gave me a fight to get it fermenting, but I got 'er goin'.

Thanks to all of you who contribute to this site. With my aging mind, I don't remember how to do this so, having a way to get quick, quality answers is a lifesaver--or should I say a wine saver.

Welcome to WMT from a fellow near-north dweller… I say “near” because we have several Canadian members as well. A few Minnesotans too.

you will find that many here are also the self reliant types.

So when are you planting the vineyard?

I have definitely considered a vineyard. Maybe when I finish the house!
