I just joined and wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kevin and I'm a big wine lover and I guess also a do-it-yourselfer. It only follows that I'd try to make my own. I made a kit a few years ago, which turned out fine but haven't had much interest until recently.

So today I started another batch and have a newfound interest in the winemaking "scene". I started reading and almost laughed at the "addiction" that is referenced on this website, and yet here I am 4 hours later ordering another 5gal carboy because I read the apfelwein recipie.

So far this seems like a great site and I hope to learn a lot in the coming months!

Hi Kevin,

Welcome to winemakingtalk. Glad to hear you are back making wine.

It is addicting. Just wait. You'll see. Welcome to the forum. Be careful, those carboys multiply.

Kevin,
WELCOME !
Now you used the word "addiction" .
I however use the word OBSESSION.

Enjoy your experiences

Welcome Kevin this is a great forum it has helped a lot of newbies myself included

Welcome Kevin, Some like to make wine because it saves them monet bottle per bottle. Some of us donbt fit that category what with 2 rroms in our basements dedicated to this money pit (LOL). I spend more money on this "Hobby" then most would spend on wine in a year!!!

Welcome to a great forum Kevin. I think I'll call it a PASSION!:i

Mine started out as simple passion. My therapist tells me that I've regressed and am now what he calls a "Wine Stalker".

Anyway.... welcome..... I hope your prognosis is better than mine.

Hi there! Not sure but carboys do multiply. I had 1 on Jan 1st and now I have 8 with 2 more on order. If I could only buy more space!

Yes passion, obsession, addiction.... I have also spent a couple years worth of wine in 3 months. But I will also have about 300 bottles of wine before summer.

I appreciate the welcomes. I'm curious about something. My job makes it so that I'll be moving frequently over the next few years. I'll move in about six months, then again in a year and finally be able to "settle down" for two or three years. Will this have any negative impact if I have anything aging at that time?

One idea that comes to mind is to stick with kits and with good timing you could have the wine made and bottled before your moves. Then just let it age in bottles. You could also make something like Skeeter Pee.
