I contacted a guy that listed on CL that he had 25 cases of bottles @ $5.00 per case...sweet!
Those puppies are coming home with me tomorrow!
He mentioned that he just opened a commercial Cidery and is getting rid of all of his Home winemakers tools and equipment, a ton of carboys and a few fermenters, possibly a crusher/destemmer and on and on.
My questions is this:
he mentioned that he had a few 15 gallon beer kegs that he converted into fermenters, any thoughts about this?
Has anyone used one?

Thanks!

I believe Runningwolf is! And you definitely need to grab those. Are you going to buy the crusher/destemmer?

If the crusher/destemmer is available, let me know, I'll buy it!

I haven't but I've read at least two articles on using 15 gal stainless kegs as light proof, crash proof fermenters. I'd go for it Pumpkinman, what's the worst that can happen, turn them around on CL?

Tom, 15 gal stainless tanks...maybe around $500. Stainless 15 gallon keg, $30. Tank..delicate to a point & expensive upkeep on lids for gaskets etc. Keg indestructible and you need to buy a few bungs about twice the size of carboys. TOM>>>> why are you still sitting there reading this!!!!!!

LMFAO!!!!!!!! I plan on buying the whole lot if the price is right.
Last question, can I age in the kegs?
Thanks!

That might be a problem and I'm not sure how to answer your question (Tom you road the short bus right?)

You see these kegs won't breath any once you put a bung in it. Same problem a carboy would have. Possibly you could put an air exchanger in it. The other issue will be total darkness. How will it get any sunlight to tan your whites. Maybe someone more familiar in the area will chime in.:a1 Can you add to what i already said?
