Anybody made wine from these? They are getting very sweet and pleasant tasting.

Huh, they look similiar to plants in my woods but I wouldnt tryly identify it and would rather play it safe and not do it! Good luck on that! Have you tasted 1?

Yep. I've been tasting them every few days recently. In the last week they've gotten very sweet and lost most of the tartness. A unique flavor that I really like now that they're getting ripe.

I'm certain of the ID and the fact that they're edible. Just curious if anyone here has made wine with them.

Do these have a similar taste to crabapple? I have a batch in the primary right now, to me they tasted like sweet crab apples only smaller. I guess I never knew what they were called but my tree looks just like the link you provided. I used the crab apple plus recipe out of one of those little pink recipe books that came with my starter kit.
Now I hope it turns out?

To me they taste like sweet cherry followed by apple ... very unique, really. Hard to describe.

Well I will have to keep you updated on how my batch turns out. I really do think that this is what I had and not a small species of crab apple. I remember thinking that for crab apples they seemed sweeter than I remembered. Also the beginning SG was a bit higher that expected when following the recipe (about 1.23) so I adjusted down by adding additional water. I still cant believe I have been around that tree for the last 11 years and never really new exactly what it was. I knew they were eatable otherwise I would have had dead birds and squirrels all over my yard over the years, they seem to like them!
