Three days ago I started a 6.5 gallon batch of Pear wine. Some people will probably think that I have used too much fruit in this batch as I only used 2 qts of water in the entire batch. The rest was 6 gallons of steamed juice (6 gallon of juice = 60 lbs fruit ) . The juice had an SG of 1.030 and it only took 8 lbs of sugar to end up at 1.080. Even with all the juice I still had to add 8 tsp acid blend . This wine has smelled absolutly phenomenal all the way through fermentation. I racked it to glass this morning with an SG of 1.020. The fruit taste is great without being overbearing. this has the potential to be a great wine IMO.

I would normally post a pic but either the camera is on the blitz or I don't know how to operate it ( probably the latter

)I will try and post some pics at a later date.

I made a pear wine some time ago and wish I added more, many people use all juice and I believe pear is one that could really be nice this way.

I have 3 batches of Pear going right now. 1 from fresh fruit 2 from steamed juice.

Goodfella, I am not sure what kind of pears they were. The family that lives next door to my daughter have 2 pear trees in their yard. The pears were just going to waste so I asked if I could pick some . They told me to take all I wanted. If I had to guess I would say they are bartlett pears. I picked 4 milk crates full and ended up with 128 lbs of fruit.

Iam doing a side by side comparison... I have 2 batches going with the exact same recipe. 1 batch with Bartlett, and 1 batch de anjou. They are bulk aging now.

On mine I added a big f-pac from steamed juice and backsweetened.

I think the way mine is going I will leave it just the way it is!!!!!

Looking good for 10 days. Have you tasted it yet?

Tepe, thanks

I did sample a small amount and even though it is dry it still has a surprizing amount of flavor. I think with backsweetening later on it will be really good !!!

IQwine, I got all my pears from a couple that lives next door to my daughter. ( 4 FREE )

That has a great color to it for pear. I would love to taste that through the Taste-It Cable network offered with full service Smellivision 7.1.

where you find all those pears, tepe ???
If you followed some of my older posts I got 90% free. There is this produce guy that buys fruit / produce that dont look good enough for store shelves and sells them. I get alot free because I grease his palm with WINE !
