I have a small hand-held steam cleaner. Just wondered if this would be any good to sterilize wine bottles, and if it would be as effective as the chemical sterilizers?
I would say not worth the effort. Just spraying water vapor won't do the trick. I think those little handheld cleaners don't produce enough steam to heat up the bottle to a sanitizing level in a short amount of time. So you are just condensing water onto the cold glass surface. Better to quickly fines with a sanitizer solution.
There is another method wine tasting rooms use for their glasses. It's a dishwasher that heats over 180° and it's only for a few minutes. Now if we only had several thousand to spend on one. Like the others said, a quick meta dip. We're only sanitizing, not sterilizing.
