Hey got a question, searched but couldn't seem to find anything when bottling and using screwtop lids how much headspace should there be?? I've been told a number of things most say about the amount of space a cork would take up this sound abot right to you all or what??

I would say more like the amount of space between the bottom of a cork and where the top of the wine normally is. I believe that is between 1/2 and 3/4 of an inch.

that sounds like what I was thinking it should be thanks

You don't need the displacement for the cork. I would imagine that there's less chance of wine with screw caps going thru bottle shock.

Are you reusing the screw caps? I know its $$$ to do new.

I would check where the capacity of the bottle ends up and fill to that point.

For example with a 750ml, pour 750ml of water into the bottle and see where that ends up.

Otherwise, I would just go with the level my filler fills to.

actually they're not that expensive in fact cheaper than corks, I was just gonna use these till I got a corker,a guy I met recently is gonna just give me one.

Other than for temperature changes, which cause the volume to expand or contract, you don't have to worry about head space. In order to keep oxidation down, head space should be kept at a reasonable minimum.

For corks, one allows 2 finger widths; for screw tops, to allow for temp changes, I'd allow between 1 and 2 finger widths, no more.

AS mentioned, the rule of thumb ( or should I say fingers) is about 2 finger widths from the bottom of the closure. This is subjective, so as long as you have about an inch you would be safe. However, it seems to me that you could have more than that as long as the wine is into the neck of the bottle where the surface area of the exposure to air is small.
I personally aim for about an inch.

all the suggestions so far sound good and reasonable
