I purchase a lot of cans (9 or so) of Alexanders Grape Juice concentrate. I don't know that I'll be able to use them soon. They are in metal cans. Anyone know if I can freeze them until I'm ready?
I believe that freezing canned foods is dangerous. The cans can burst. Inside can coatings can crack. Contamination can occur. This is all the stuff that I've been told for years.
No, don't freeze the cans! Do you have a basement, root cellar, or crawl space that stays relatively cool? Even in a cabinet under the sink ifyou have nothing else available. Those arethe ideal places to store your Alexander's.
I wouldn't freeze them either, just keep them cool. What types of juice did you get. I have made several batches using this juice- and I must say they turn out pretty good. The body isn't quite as good as with a kit, but the tastes are great and with the right additives, they clear well. I have done Liebfraumilch, Johannisburgh Reisling, Blush Zinfandel, Ruby Cabernet and the Premium Chablis. TodayI made my own F-pack type mixture with Zinfandel Blush and added to two kits just finishing up. I use 3 gallon carboys with a can in each(after primary) because I don't have any 5 gallon carboys-only 3's and 6's. Too bad the juice is being discontinued everywhere.
sauvignon, chablis, riesling pretty much. Got a few of each. might have another, but I don't recall. I've never made 'just wine' from them. I plan on using them for fruit wines. I'll probably make them full strength and add fruit. Sort of a 'peach chablis' or 'strawberry riesling' Its funny how many cans 9 is when you actually think about the wine it will make. Glad I paid about $75 for the whole lot!
Maybe I'll have to go back and see if he has any others.... I didn't know they weren't going to make them any longer. I think that they really will last a long time. Canned fruit/veggies will last several years past the recomended time frame... goes to figure so will grape juice. (though I doubt they will around me)
After hearing what everyone has to say, I won't freeze. I'll put them in the cellar with the other finished wines. (Builds thier confidents and gives the little guys something to look up to
