Thanks Mike,

BTW, I'm a little conserned about contamination with my Gewurz. Riesling.
Bag from my kit was on basement floor (less than clean..MUCH!) because box was damaged. During poor, bag slipped from my hand and came to rest on my freshly cleaned and sanitized primary fermentor. After a few expletives.......

.......I decided to continue on.

Bad choice? Should I be that concerned?

After all didn't home brewing start in bath tubs...LOL

Thanks again,

Greg

I wouldn't worry about it. The 3 second rule applies in wine making as well as food you drop on the floor IMHO!

Update:

I took a pH reading yesterday and filtered this guy getting ready to bottle today. pH ended up at 3.18 (so thats why Riesling is always "crisp"!) Free SO2 was ran after filtering and was found to be at 60ppm which means it was right at 48ppm before filtering. I probably should have rinsed my filtering setup with water after running sulfite solution as it didn't really need any more bump in SO2. Bottle sanitizing will add a few more ppm as well.

I plan on bottling today after work. Will post pics when labeled.

The left over glass in the filter was REALLY nice. This wine can definitely be served right now after only 3 months in bulk aging.

Bottling day for the CC Showcase Riesling!

Check it off! This one is definitely an early drinker. Fantastic all the way around. This was an Xmas present for my daughter. Riesling is her wine and we had fun doing this kit together. We ended up splitting up the kit she picked out the "drunk trunk" label for her wines. They turned out nice I think!

Hey Mike,

Have this kit in waiting, was just curious if you have in your notes what the SG was prior to bottling.

Thanks,

Greg

I may have mislead you.......
Did you measure the SG after adding the F-Pack, prior to bottling to see how much sugar you put back into the wine?

The reason I ask is because I have made a few of the Late Harvest Riesling Kits where I add only a portion of the F-Pack.Off the top of my head I stop adding at 1.02 (approx. 3/4 of the reserve). I was just curious to how sweet the Yakima Kit was going to be compared to the Late Harvests I have made.

Thanks

My measurements were made before adding the Flavour Reserve Pack. It is only about 6 oz. This did not affect the flavour profile all that much, just a touch of sweetness and nowhere near a late harvest style kit.

Yea, I always use them. But they are expensive.

I wish I could find out what paper they use and I would print my own. I ordered a sample of every type of waterproof label paper from onlinelabels.com and none of their label paper was acceptable. It was thin, it tore when peeled off the paper and it would not peel back off easily once applied. Still searching for the paper they use but it is totally blank with no markings front or back.

Its good stuff (Wine Labels Direct) doesn't tear and peels back off easily when you need it to.

Avery makes an "easy release" label. I haven't tried them as wine labels - I use George's pregummed label paper.

I use the peel off paper Avery labels for Carboys and Splits but I don't believe they make any Waterproof labels.

I am using the Avery 8164 label and I am spraying them with polyurethane to waterproof them. It is labor intensive and slow, but seems to work okay. My problem is the ink jet printerI have with water based ink. I guess a color laser printer would be the answer, but I am not ready to spring for that amount of bucks.

Rocky what do you get for the polyurethane on your labels and where do you get it. I would like to try it but am not sure what to get and where.

I have a couple spray cans of polyurethane around the house from other projects. I think one is Minwax and one is another Home Depot product. I use the spray cans and put on several light coats.

.

They must be sending you the cheap stuff! I've never had that problem with the waterproof matte inkjet labels. Have even repositioned them on the bottles with no problems.
