I posted the other day that I bought between 35 to 40 pounds of muscadines and needed some suggestions. Well, I think I may have gotten 33 to 35 pounds. I wanted to make sure I had 6 pounds per gallon so I went to the farmers market and get more.
Unfortunately the farmer chose this day to not go to market. I finally found a wholesale company that had some but they were in very large baskets and I only wanted ten pounds. They were 26 bucks and they said they were 20 pounds of grapes. After thinking about that, I said what the heck, it is only $1.30 a pound so I bought them. Turns out they are 25 pounds of beautiful muscadines.
They are the large kind and I understand the smaller ones are better but these things are very sweet.
I am going to use 30 pounds for 5 gallons and 3 to 4 pounds for a flavor pack. I am going to use 5 pounds for jelly.
If I don't buy anymore grapes, I should have about 18 pounds for some other 5 gallon carboy ( all the size I have). I am thinking of maybe making a combination of things.
I have considered skeeter pee with 18 pounds of muscadines.
I have considered making a blackberry jam wine, using enough jam for a 2 gallon amount and fermenting the 18 pounds of muscadines with that for a 5 gallon batch of blackberry/muscadine wine.
I would appreciated your opinions or suggestions.
