For anyone who has made/ done the Cab Franc ice wine kit (or other ice wines), did you have any issues clearing? How long did it take?
Mine doesn't seem to want to clear after 2 weeks. Still blocks out almost all light (can't see bright flashlight on other side). The interesting part is that the sample I took out to make room for the F pack clears no trouble in a few days. I left it out in a measuring cup loosely covered and it cleared very well. I even stirred it up again to see how fast and it only took a few days to clear most of the way.
So, does anyone know if these F packs slow clearing or something?
To eliminate some potential answers and guesses, here's the background info:
I've made 4 kits, all spagnols. A vidal ice wine, a choc orange port and two white choc white ports. No issues at all. Only process difference is that those kits contain kieselsol. This cab franc ice wine only has the Chitosan.
Only differences between the sample that cleared and the carboy are:
1. I use a vacuum stopper on the carboy. The sample was open to air.
2. no f pack in sample
3. The carboy was in the basement at 17-18 degrees celcius (63-64 F) and the sample was upstairs at 21-22C (70-72F).
The wine store owner suggested temperature could make a difference and I've moved the carboy up to the warmer temp to see.
