I just bottled 6 gallons of this wine yesterday. I tasted a small sample and although very young it was already good and seems to have great potential. I noticed a distinct flavor of grapefruit and possibly a little peach. They say there is a lychee (sp) flavor also but I wouldn't know what that was if it ran over me with a truck.

I'm just concerned that they used grapefruit in the flavor pack because my wife also liked the sample but she cannot consume grapefruit in any form due to a reaction with a medication she takes. I e-mailed RJS and inquired but am curious as to what those of you who have made this wine find the taste to be?

I can't pick out all those subtle flavors and aromas that are advertised for the different wines. I just know if I like it or I don't. ;)

If it were an Orchard Breezin' kit, then I would be more worried. The "wine cooler" type kits have a lot of other fruit flavors.

For the Cru Select Gewurztraminer, I would consider it "cheating" to introduce flavors via the f-pack. For the higher end kits, it is supposed to have the same grape juice as the kit. So, what you are tasting is flavors from the grapes/fermenting, and not from grapefruit.

That said, since there could be significant drug interaction with the furanocoumarins in grapefruit, you should probably ask RJS to confirm.

Just received my answer from RJS. No grapefruit......its all grape juice. Wife will be happy about that!!

Getting ready to bottle mine, very distinctive grapefruit notes, especially after fermentation and clearing. Back sweetening helped mellow it out a bit.

Ended up with .5% residual. Going to be good this summer.

I think a lot of Gewurztraminer has grapefruit notes when it's young.
