Bumping this thread. I have some fermaid o from last year, opened it then stored in a sealed Ziploc bag. Took it out today and saw it's called up and hard. I'm able to knock pieces off and dissolve them in water. Is this still good to use?
The chemical make up will be the same as a fresh batch. There are sugars in the formula which are hydroscopic (absorb humidity). This allows them to reform into a glass (larger blocks) which translates into it takes longer to dissolve. A lab blender would mix it in fairly fast (or a wand style drink mixer). My answer has been 1) store in a moisture tight jar 2) weigh the target amount into a beaker (juice glass) then break the dry cake with a spatula (knife) 3) add some juice and mix till I have all of it wet/ mostly a slurry. The glass wants to absorb water so I never find chunks.
