I filter just before bottling.

I would filte after sweetening myself. Sometimes no matter how good you dissolve the sugar aor what you are using to sweeten it can settle out.

I just filtered 2 carboys of spiced apple. One had been sweetened before, one after. The one I sweetened after filtering doesn't have the same sparkle as the other one. I appears simple syrup adds a slight cloudiness, slight but there.
