It's even on the news. About 10 people I know have suddenly been stricken down with it. They say it's like being hit by a semi! One minute, OK, the next minute you're down for the count!

Stay healthy!

Well I got the flu shot so I'm hoping the flu that is going around is the flu I got the shot for :slp

Yeah I get a flu shot every year. That way I might have enough immunity left over in case the old bugs come back.

i did not get flu shot.. I have had most of the ones going around, h1n1..i am immune too...
and I have tons of streptomyicin and pinicillin on hand as well as some z packs.

Apparently H1N1 is making the rounds again and has erupted around Chicago. I have a friend who died of it in 2009. Fortunately this year's flu vaccine includes H1N1.

James, you know that penicillin is not effective against viruses (like those that cause influenza), right?

Got the flu shot. H1N1 is the one breaking out here. I currently have the flu. The shot does not always protect, as they warn if you listen. It does make it less severe.

My wife, who never gets vaccinated because "it's bad for you," brought it home from her boss, who also did not get vaccinated and was just too important to stay home from work while ill.

I abstained from all alcohol for the first 9 days she had it, we stayed away from each other to the point of sleeping in other rooms, she wiped down everything she touched, and I was doing fine on staving it off. Then I had ONE 5 ounce glass of wine, and the next day I was sick. How I wish I could save that one glass of wine for another time now. My illness is not as bad as my wife's, and should be short-lived. I'm just achy with minor congestion and some slight coughing.

She's still coughing after 10 days of it and spent several sleepless nights in the beginning.

Happy New Year. :po

What is the relationship wine/flu I'm not familiar with that one??? :?

Alcohol consumption lowers your body's immune response. It also increases mucous secretion. In the presence of germs that your body is already fighting on a subclinical level, it can make you symptomatic.

In fact, my wife originally became symptomatic after drinking one, measured shotglass of rum in Coke. The next morning, she was ill. I had the same response after one 5 ounce glass of wine. I wish I had waited a few more days.

I tend to think alcohol sterilizes my system. My scotch and vitamin C routine, as soon as I feel a tingle in my throat is better than any other method of killing unwanted germs in my body. 90% of the time, i wake up just fine the next day.

I find juicing really helps. Along with a good hot toddy.

I'm one of those who really has to get vaccinated every year. High risk due to compromised immune system, work in a setting where I have contact with all kinds of people from around the world, have kids. You name it, I'm on that list (except for being elderly, I guess!).

Nice thing is my Dad works for Public Health and just sends me a text when they have their clinic downtown and there are no line ups :r
