Thanks everyone. Scott, the code here is 8 1/4" max on rise and 9" on run residentially. and 7/11 commercial. As far as replacing that is the same. I basically kept the rise the same form what was existing with 8 1/8" but shrunk the run from 10" to 9" to give it the proper 3' from stair to wall at the basement which also allowed me to put a door in to enter my new wine making room.
