Works good. I believe you could set it out on the back porch and it would hold 75*, It's insulated pretty good. It's made out of a char-coal Bar-B-Que Grill. I used the cooking grate to set the must on and the bottom for 5 Gallon carboys, I think it would probably hold 3 carboys. There is a dial thermometer on the top cover and a digital thermometer with a probe to put in the must. The heat source is a 150 watt strip heater and a fan to circulate the air, the fan runs all the time. There is a temperature switch that has probe that enters the back and it is set at 75* and holds the temperature between 75* and 78*. It has a side door for loading carboys or 1 or 1 1/2 gallon jugs. There are two wheels on the front and stand-offs on the rear.

I'm in the middle of making a two story "trunkcubator" and wondering where you got the 150 watt strip with a thermostat, thanks. bk

I can’t believe you molested a BBQ smoker that way. I will agree it's a genius idea but there is pulled pork and beef brisket sobbing all around the world now.

Sorry, I'm kinda partial to BBQ Here is my smoker I built about 3 years ago

That looks a lot like mine Duster. I see you used an old propane tank too. Mine finished out at 10' long after I cut 4' out. Here's a pic. It also has a charcoal grill in the front.

Rick,
You must have a BIG family.....:?

whats the most you cooked for and what was the #'s cooked

Homer, the strip stands alone, the temperture is controled by a N/C adjustable temperature switch
Duster, Nice looking rig, you and redtrk are big time smokers, I've got a green egg and really like it. I found the grill behind a grill speciality shop by a dumpster --- yes, I did ask if I could have it. They had robbed parts off it to sell to customers, it had no guts -- just the way I wanted it.

Actually yes I do have a big family. I have five sons all are married but one although he is out of the house too. Eight grandkids, two step kids that are also grown. Right after Christmas I feel poor. lol!!!

The most I've cooked for was about 60+ guys at my Masonic Lodge. I'm not actually how many pounds of meat I can put on it but it will hold a lot.

Guess who's cooking lunch Wednesday! LOL

I would haul it over and fire it up but sorry we're driving the Hybrid not the truck. Maybe next time. Now if y'all want to come to Cincy and hang out we can arrange to rub down some shoulder and get it fired up.

Can U gess the MPG for what pulls it?

My F-150 gets about 17 and I bet this thing would take it down to about 14 or less. Now in the wife's Honda Insight we're rocking about 45 mpg which is why we're driving it over. If it were warmer we would be on the bike.

Redtrk, wow, looks sharp. I think yours turned out even nicer than mine. As long as the food all turns out good the who cares right? I wanted to use a propane tank, I looked all over for one that was taken out of service with no luck. I actually scored an industrial air compressor for the tank. all 7ga cold rolled. The trailer was an old popup that I drug out of the fence row. All said and done I may have $200 bucks wrapped up in it. I didn't think I did to bad.

Redtrk,
You sure could put a lot of QS&L wings in that sucker.
Mike

Or carry a lot of booty home!
