After working in the yard today replacing everything that did not make it through the unusually cold winter, I sit down to watch TV. The first story I see - some of the farmers were opening up the strawberry fields for folks to come pick - for free - all the berries they wanted. Did I mention this was for free. Apparently the prices they are getting for the berries are not worth the effort for them to even pick them so after news stories ran they the farmers were letting them rot in the fields a couple decided to open the up and let folks come pick. Bummer, I sure hope they open them again and for others in Florida pay attention for hopefully another chance for free fruit!

The free strawberries would be a great deal- if you were picking. Remember it is the farmer's livlihood and sometimes their cost for the product doesn't cover the cost to grow and pick. You could help promote their goodwill to give them away, if you turn that around to them. Show up to pick, but bring a couple bottles of a good wine with you. Who do you think they will remember when times are better and prices are high and you need a cheaper place to pick? I always remember those who are kind and appreciate my goodwill. I will remember that redheaded lady who showed up today to our event and instead of just coming for a free wine tasting- she brought hand crafted chocolate hearts with a grape pattern in them. We asked for no donation, but she thought enough to bring her handcrafted gifts to us.

Now go see if there is any more of those strawberries left. They ripen every few days.

That would be a fantastic idea and hopefully we'll still get a chance to get some berries.
Right now its the strawberry farmers trying to give back to the community since running the sprinklers for that week or so during the weird freezing weather we had caused sinkholes that closed major highways and schools as well as drained wells in the area. Lets just leave it at lots of folks and $$$ were and are continuing to be affected. They could certainly use a bottle or 2 of wine they had to pay for the water use, the damages the water the excessive usage caused and the crop loss.
