Here are my quick tips from someone who used the double lever hand corker for quite a few years:
- Corks insert better if you can drive the corks in with one solid rapid motion. I put the bottle on the floor, position the weight of my upper body over the top of the bottle, and then drive the cork by pushing down on the levers and dropping the weight of my body down in one fell swoop. Rapid and abrupt is the key.
- Occassionally, a bottle will try to tip while you're corking. The downward force, if not applied directly over the bottle, can cause the bottle to tip. I made a bottle holder that has eliminated the tip and spill problem.
