Figured I would go ahead and make a formal introduction even though this is technically not my first post. Trying to finish up my PhD in chemistry within the next year or so, and the hobby of winemaking seems a natural extension of all that.
A friend of mine and I are currently working on our first batch of homemade wine (New Zealand Pinot Noir from WE), and it's about 4 days into it's primary fermentation. I've already found this forum to be extremely helpful, and it's nice to be able to benefit from the experience of everyone in this hobby near or far. I've probably learned more about wine from starting this hobby up than I knew beforehand.
