I'm recently retired and all the remodeling of the house my wife had scheduled has been somewhat complete. Started looking for new hobbies to keep me out of trouble and always thought I would like to make wine so here I am.

My first batch is from a kit and on its way, plan to bottle Feb. 8th. Have been fortunate enough to have some instruction from a local winery on my first batch.
The fact that I will soon have 30 bottles of wine to put somewhere has also prompted me to build a wine rack. One more hobby.

I am glad I found you guys and look forward to learning all I can from your experiences.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on retiring. Hope we can help make your new hobby more fun.

You are not alone!!!!

Welcome to this great forum. You didn't say when you started your first kit but, take your time in bottling that first batch, or you will have sediment in the bottom. Good Luck!!

Welcome to winemakingtalk, what part of South Carolina are you in? My step son lives in Teca Cay

Current wine batch

Just had the opportunity to get back online and reply to some of the questions. First off , I live in the big metropoliatian city of Piedmont SC, next to Greenville if that helps.
My first attempt at making wine began on Jan 2 2012. If all goes well the bottling process will begin on Feb 8 . Really looking forward to it. The wine I'm currently making is a kit from RJ Spagnols, "Grand Cru Intnl." Its an Austrailian Cabernet Sauvignon.
By the way , just finished the wine rack, nothing fancy but should hold enough to keep pace with my consumption. I'll try to include a picture, as you can see my wife has already made her contribution vases and bowls. Its really nice outside so I"ll get off and go enjoy. Take care.

Nothing fancy? Looks pretty fancy to me.

Very nice!!!

Don't get in any hurry bottling that wine. The instructions tend to rush the bottling process. If you let the wine set another month after it clears, it will drop more sediment that otherwise would have ended up in your bottles.

So, rack it after it clears; let it set another month, then rack and bottle.

Welcome Jag,

It's funny, a year ago I started my first wine kit. It was exactly the same one you picked... the RJ Cab Sauv.

Best of luck with it and keep it topped off with a similar wine.
