Hello! Just started making my first wine

Hi, I'm Tracey. I got a wine making kit for Christmas and finally got around to starting it last Friday. I can barely stand to open my pantry door right now because the alcohol smell in the 12x4 foot room is so bad that I feel I could get drunk just breathing it in. LOL. Anyway, I look forward to checking out the forums and seeing what I can learn about making wine!

Welcome to the forum. That smell must be the yeastie smell of fermentation. It can be strong and very different from one grape type to the next.
