I am so glad to report that my first degassing was a good experience. I was on my husband 'drill man' like drunk on wine, and he did great. We only lost about 1/2 a glass when he got a little power happy, but all is good and we will be ready to bottle in about 2 wks.

But it is a good example........... We should memorialize it for you Wade.

Good to hear Darshan, just remember what you did and back off a little more next time as this wasnt the 1st time for me although I havent done it in a long time now due to the electric vacuum pump which works great for this and racking ad soon filteringaqnd bottling.

Yep! Just experienced the volcano! I started slow, degassing my IM green apple then gave it a quick jolt on high and then. Whoa! It was pretty violent and I lost at least a gollon of wine. Topped back up with the F-pack, a bottle of riesling I bottled last week, and shook some water in the F-pack bag to finish it off. Will be more careful next time for sure!

I wish I had a camera when it erupted! That would have been a good picture- a carboy spewing wine up8" above itself. Does that mean it is fully de-gassed when that happens?

One tip to doing thisis to degas a little and then add the dissolved sulfite into it. Sometimes just adding the undissolved k-meta into a gassy wine can do this alone. The best way is to pull a small sample of wine, add the k-meta to it and then add it back. you could also just dissolve this in a small amount of water and add it in to the slightly degassed wine and then finish degassing.
