I read somewhere you need to add glycerine to the yeast culture in order to freeze it for future use, however, I am not sure how to go about it. I have a starter cultured from grapes naturally. Any suggestions how I save it for the future? Please keep in mind I can neither buy commercial wine yeast where I live nor order it online as it is contraband. The only yeast I get here is bread yeast.

How long will a yeast culture last in the fridge? I am planning on taking some fermenting must from a batch of mead and holding onto it for a month or so....

This seems to be a good tutorial on freezing yeast. It says about a 15% solution of food grade Glycerin or Glycerol (not Glycol).

I apologize if there is a rule against linking to other discussion sites.

Thanks! That's a great tutorial. Although, I may not be able to do it exactly the same way, I got a good idea how I can make it work within my limited means.
