I just found and ordered an interesting set of hydrometers from Valley Vitners

Instead of having the standard triple scale that covers a wide range, they have two narrow range units. One for starting SGs, and one for finishing SGs.

This smal change in SG is spread out over the entire unit, which should provide more precision.

I will post a note, when they arrive, and I try them.
 
I think Runningwolf has these although I think he bought them for a different reason as I think his are calibrated for higher starting sg's like with late harvest wines.

Steve I like the one you're showing. I was also thinking about buying a set of three that read only brix but they are also in the $15.00 range. I have one hydrometer that is for reading above 40 Brix like Wade mentioned for Late Harvest wines.
