well, that didn't last long - roads were clear this morning, snow melting off quickly

The weather don't seem to want to warm up here, 31f today and the rest of the week in the 30's. Every one is sure ready for spring. Tomy

Wish our snow only lasted a few hours and was gone....

Usually we get 'January Thaws' ....when the snow melt and lifts your spirits...not this year....don't think we got a 'February Thaw' either....

We know winter can't last forever...and the calender says it's spring.

I guess it's because of global warming.

We got our annual "Arkansas Blizzard" yesterday. We only got about 3-4 inches here and it was all gone by late yesterday evening. Cheyene sure enjoyed it while it lasted though.

One didn't make it NW..About 30 seconds after I had snapped that picture a falcon came and he wasnt after bird seed either. I heard his little screech and next thing I knew he had a Cardinal and was flying off with it.

Bummer...Damn Nature's way!!!!
My girlfriend lived on river...was watching her cat one day down by the water and a Bald Eagle swooped down and took it away....She was pretty upset.

We have a saying between family who live near me. There is a constant loss of pets to: wolves, coyotes, fishers, big cats and so on. When one doesn't come home, we say, "Well another one went the way of the woods!" What makes it even worse is when the sisters find chunks of fur the color of the loved one. Heck the neighbor finds cattle carcasses in the pasture next to our place about every other year. Usually their neck is broken or slashed open and the hind quarters chewed away. One was even dragged a few hundred yards away and hidden in brush. I usually cary a firearm with me when I go for walks through the woods.

What kind of critters do you have around there???

We have many Black Bear, Coyotes, occasional Timber Wolves, Bob Cats and an odd Cougar....Hopefully they are well fed on deer meat.

I have never thought of carrying a gun when I go to the woods...do bring the dogs along sometimes for a nature walk.

We have had sightings of bobcat, black bear, mountain lion, and many coyotes here and I seen a wolf last year. At my daughters school late last year she couldnt go out to recess cause there was a black bear out on the playground at the time.

Apparently hungry ones! I don't want it to sound like I'm packin all the time. If I'm walking through the woods near dark alone, no dog, etc. I bring along a shotgun as a deterrent to any overly zealous or hungry critters. I really don't like running into packs of coyotes or wolves at dusk!

People usually equate New York with New York City but I know Northern New York is pretty wild. Once, back when I was a furniture mover for North American Van Lines, I was driving in Northern New York at night, getting sleepy and looking for a place to pull over and nap when a big black bear ran across the road in front of me. Suddenly I was wide awake and didn't feel like stopping anymore!!!

We get jolted awake like that when a moose runs through the headlights....big guys!!!! They are fun to see during the daylight, but only see about one a year.

Kind of nice to see critters, but don't want them taking after me....so far most are scared of people and only eat each other.

here's what we had Monday night/Tuesday morning...and more on the way this evening!

UPDATE: I am sitting in my favorite lunch-time coffee shop here in downtown Denton. I am watching a couple of twenty-somethings standing outside, wearing coats, their arms extended, faces up, catching huge snowflake clumps on their tongues, faces and hair coated in snow. They are laughing and acting like little kids.

That's how often it snows in Texas.....

Trashy, I'm glad they are enjoying it.

I have had the neighbor come over twice this winter with his tractor and move the pile along the drive so that I have room to blow the new stuff we get. I'm ready for spring.
