Joke Thread

Folks,

I have enjoyed the joke thread for quite some time now. Recently it has been decided that the joke thread was getting too political and has been removed.

I was a little surprised. Being from Jersey, there is really not a whole lot that I find offensive. I am just wondering if there were a lot of folks out there that were offended by some of the material being posted.

This poll is not intended to "rebel" in any way against the forum moderators. It is just intended to find out how many felt offended by the published jokes.

It wasn't so much that the joke thread was getting to political, there was a joke posted that the mods, felt was more insulting than funny. The person who posted it felt that the mods were not being fair and this person pointed out other jokes that this person felt was wrong.

So in conclusion the mods felt that the joke thread should come down before there is an issue with it.

Not everyone thinks alike, that is what makes this world so wonderful. We must always think of the other person and not criticize those who do not agree with us. We need to make sure this forum is not catering to anyone particular type of person. We are a wine forum, not Comic Central, sorry.

Please try to understand.

you mean all this time I've been putting my jokes in the wrong forum, no wonder I haven't had any of the big names calling me. I have no problem either way the jokes were fun to read but this is the internet jokes can be found anywhere just about so it's cool with me if its been deemed better to get rid of it.

I understand what you are saying, but wouldn't it have been better to simply remove the offending joke and send the authur to "sit in the corner"?

I understand that we are a Wine forum, but really.. How much of non-wine related stuff goes on around here? Cheese making? Food? Beer? Preserves and Canning? General Chit-Chat (anything except wine).

During crush, or whenever I have a number of people over to bottle, jokes are always told at some point (usually after all the work is done and we start sippin'). To me Jokes and Wine serve the same purpose. To bond in fellowship, Laugh, and have a good time. This forum (for most of the regulars) is not simply a Q and A session about wine. It has a definite social aspect. One that goes beyond wine topics.

This is sorta why I started this poll. Really, how many people found the jokes actually offensive? If one is sensitive, wouldn't it be better for them to simply not read the joke thread?

Look, I am not trying to belittle anyboy's feelings, but I really looked forward to the joke area. In removing it, perhaps a little of the joy I found in this forum is gone.

Again, I would beg that you re-instate the joke area, and simply remove any joke that you deem offensive.

JohnT, the joke had been moved for review and the person posting it had been sent the reason why. There has been an increasing number of jokes appearing lately that had been pushing the envelope. I also enjoy good jokes, but ones targeting one as being better than the other only leads to insult and hard feelings. We can still joke around and have a good time, we just don't want insulting commentary or jokes. They rank right up there with politics for causing ill will.

If I may offer a suggestion you can let people subscribe to the joke forum if they wish. In my rideohio.org motorcycle forum we have a politics section and what we call the underbelly. If you don't go into your own settings and subscribe to them then you don't even know they are there. I believe this site is the same software so I know it can be done.

I found a lot of the posted jokes to be tasteless, sexist and sophomoric. Even so, I did get a chuckle or two from a few of them. It matters not to me if they stay a part of this forum or not, I figure if I don't like the jokes I can avoid them.

I don't agree with the line of reasoning that causes favoring the minority over the majority, or majority accommodation to minority concerns - especially for things that won't matter five years from now.

Should I now be tolerent of intolerence?

Who cares?! This forum is *supposed* to be about making wine.

Did I mention that the ability of some members to have more sig lines than others offends me?

There were actually so many jokes up there that were sexist or just politically incorrect that there wouldnt have been much left. I am jumping on my soap box for a minute here! I hate the way this world runs now with feelings!!!!!Some of you may not know this but games for children like baseball do not have scores now because they its unfair to the loosing team, is that a bunch of BS or what!!! Look everyone, I freakin hate doing stuff like this with a passion. and John, pretty much anyone who was offended and there were some arent going to come on here and say it was me so pm me and take a dump on me!! LOL

I'm all for favoring the majority. It's having the majority bend to the minority over silly stuff that bothers me. If I let it

Wade -- I understand why you did what you did. I also understand that WMT didn't cause the world to get to the point that this kind of thing comes up. You go with the flow and what you need to do. Having said that, I think it's sad that things have to flow this way.

Well it is now my turn on the soapbox, this is me, the person who has feelings, not Julie the mod, ok?

Do I like a good joke, you are dam right I go. Those who know me, know that I do not take offense to every little thing that goes on, I can take a teasing with the best of anyone here. So with that said, how many of you who are bitching that the thread came down have EVER been made fun of because of your race, color, religion, or gender? How many of you have been made to feel you are more stupid than another gender? To think that a joke thread is more important to you GUYS than someone's feelings totally sickens me. The joke that was pulled was a man vs women, where it only took men 7 steps to pull up to an ATM machine and it took women 27 steps. You GUYS think stuff like this is funny? I was not the one to pull this post but I was the one who pm the guy who posted it. Even thou I made it very clear that the mods did not feel this was appropriate, I was the one this guy blamed. Actually he blamed me and my "girlfriends" for getting bent out of shape on a joke. Go look at my profile, the only girl who is my friend is St.Allie and she is gone. And you GUYS can be thankful for that, she would be slamming you big.

Yes I understand what Wade is saying, but come on look at the other side of the coin. We have been forced to take these steps because insensitive people feel that their feelings are the only ones that count.
