I have been reading forum all day, and have found quite a bit on sanatizing equipment. I currently use C-brite to sanatize, and so far have not had a problem with this??? I'm really interested in sanatizing bottles as I am about to bottle some Strawberry wine.

I also use c-brite to sanitize. After cleaning and sanitizing and rinsing well I give a rinse with campden tablet solution

C-Brite is not technically a sanitizer. It is a cleaning agent. Your best bet is to follow the C-Brite with some sulfites. See my tutorial and article on cleaning AND sanitizing.

George, Where would I find your tutorial on cleaning and sanitizing???

I thought C-Brite was chlorine based? Doesn't Chlorine sanitize? I've been using it for my beer production and thus far no problem.

It is a chlorine based cleanser, but I can tell you that they recently removed the term "sanitizer" from the container. It now only reads "Cleanser". Like I say in my tutorial, all of the cleansers will work most of the time; however, are you ready to lose a batch of wine because you did not spend a few extra minutes and sanitize with the sulfites? I will not run that risk and I will not advise my customers to run the risk, as well.

CLEAN AND SANITIZE. It is worth the effort.

If you use a chlorine based product as your sanitizer, such as household bleach, you have to rinse and rinse to make sure all residue is gone. Otherwise, it could affect the aroma of your final product. It's better to use sulphites or iodophor as a sanitizer.

I usually use B-bright or if I am out unexpectedly a bleach solution to clean my equipment, then after rinsing a lot, I use a sulfite solution to sanitize everything that may come in contact with the must. That includes counter tops, ect. I will also point out that it is a must to ensure that you have everything dry before storing after use. Mold will grow quickly if you dont.

A local store owner told me they're no longer able to list C-Brite as a sanitizer due to government regulations. He was out of K-meta and was trying to get me to buy the C-Brite as a sanitizer.Luckily I was able to catch George before my shipment of other goodies left his store. (Thanks again!)

At the time I thoughtI was being a paranoid newbie (and I'm sure I am in a lot of ways), but better safe than sorry.
