Saturday night I was disarming in the bedroom where my 4 y/o was watching tv. I popped the mag, then racked the slide of my XD. Out of my 4 y/o comes...."Daddy, I know what you're doing.....You're taking the batteries out of your gun." She immediately followed with "I know, never touch a gun unless you say it's ok and you are there."

She's so cute. I can't wait til she is old enough to go shoot. I'm already teaching her the rules.

Is that the XD compact? I'm considering that for a new carry gun.

CT is funny with the laws. Technically we are open carry but you can't cause alarm when you carry. For the most part nobody open carries here including me. If some skell tried to rob me anyways I don't want him knowing I have a gun.

I was carrying a Taurus .357 revolver that I shot well but I sent it out to get fixed and it hasn't been right since. I'm considering a full sized semi for wintertime so I can hip carry and have a coat that will cover it up. When it's warmer I carry the S+W Bodyguard .380. It's very accurate for the gun but the trigger pull distance is crazy long. Plus the safety is impossible to get off without alot of effort. I usually just keep the safety off while its in a pocket holster that covers the trigger.

How do you feel about the XD? I was considering the compact .45 but I haven't handled them yet to see how they fit my hand.

I like it alot. I've had it about 3 years now and put probably 1500 rounds through it. I'm accurate with it to about 30 yards. My son and I usually shoot all different distances when at the range and if we are there alone we will do moving drills at various distances. The .45 holds 13 rounds in the mag and 1 in the chamber when I carry. In the summer if I'm not OC or CC this I carry a Bersa .380 that I've had for about 15 years now. I can hit my target reliably with it on a consistent basis. I also have a Taurus 85 UL .38 special snubby. Havn't put much lead down range with that yet. I picked that up in the event my wife would need something while at home. Can't go wrong with a wheel gun for that. I've been looking at 9 mm's lately. Just haven't decided on what to get. I can't stand the grip angle on a glock, just doesn't feel right in my hands. Though about getting a compact for CC though.

The Glock is the other gun I'm looking at. The Taurus revolver I had was a 605. It used to shoot well but I had the spring on the cylinder latch go and sent it in for service. When it came back the timing was all off and the gun misfired and generally shot poorly. Be careful...

I have a S+W Model 59 9mm that my father bought from an old friend. It is a great gun and is accurate as all hell. It's just waaaaayyyyy to heavy to carry. I just bought a Mossberg 500 Road Blocker for home defense. Check out this bad boy. Not nearly as much recoil as you might imagine either, the muzzle brake actually helps. As for the ammo I couldn't help myself haha!

Nice......I also thought about looking for a used Remington 870 youth model for a HD shotty. I say a youth model because they are smaller to begin with and would be easier if my wife ever needed/wanted to shoot it than a 12g. Still saving up for the AR, gotta love the EBR's .:gb

Remind me to knock when I come to your door. LOL :D

Hahaha! Yeah I have been eyeballing the Bushmaster Carbon 15 up here at the super gun store. They have it on sale for $699 with mags and a red dot sight. Something about the price of 5.56 turns me way off. Shot a buddy's AR that he converted to 9mm. You can shoot it at the pistol range and it's dirt cheap for ammo. That seems like the way to go. I've been hunting with my Mosin Nagant this year too. Cheap ammo and the gun is just about disposable if something goes wrong.
