Hello

What laws og rules are in your country when getting a wine making license ?

if your making for home consumption, in texas we can make 200 gallons free.
if your talking commercial, you have to have federal, state, county, and a whole lot of money, and a whole of paperwork, and a whole lot of requirements. Its different from state to state.

You can only make 100 gallons per year but up to 200 gallons per household. So James and Winenoob66 you should have someone else living in the house :h

Frjen, as you can see from the responses above, the laws vary slightly from state to state in the US. One clarification I would make is that regardless of the amount one can make in each state without a license, one cannot sell any of it. It has to be for personal use.

I do there tied up in the basement, opps hope Santa didn't see that. lol

FRJEN - As everyone has said it depends on your State. Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley signed legislation into law Thursday May 9, 2013 to allow people to make beer and wine at home. The state was the last state to legalize the hobby. The Alabama law allows home brewers to make 15 gallons of beer or wine every three months. The law allows home brewers to take their products to tastings and competitions, but they can’t sell it. At least I'm not a boot-legger anymore.

To make sure everyone understands, yes each state will have their own laws but they cannot circumvent Federal law. Federal law states that a person can make 100 gallons per year and no more than 200 gallons per household. Each state can have their own laws as long as it does not state more than 100 gallons per person and 200 gallons per household.

Julie - You've made my day. I'm buying more carboys. 200 Gal a year and it's all legal.

No, that is not what Julie said! She was pointing out that the Federal law has a limit, but your state may have a stricter limit. You have to follow the stricter of the two, in your case, AL's limit.

I really like ypur laws, it's quite strict here. In order to brew anything here, I have to have a production room approved by a jury.
And if I produce anything without a lisence I could up to one year in prison.
Also nothing over 60% can be produced at all and beer must not be over 5,8%.

Hi Frjen, I apologize but I have forgotten where you are located. I believe it is either Europe or Scandinavia. Are you saying you can get a license if your production room is approved by a "jury," which I assume is a government entity. Is there a cost involved in this? When you say "nothing over 60% can be produced" do you mean 60% alcohol (120 proof)? That is really strong and would require distillation, would it not?

Yes, a govermet entity but there is no cost involved other than getting the right materials for the room, mainly waterproof floors, walls and seeling.
60% alcohol is high yes, but it was only chamged last year.
I'm just hooping to find a room or get the money to make my own.
