I am starting a Mosti Renaissance Cab Siraz today and the SG is 1.103. Checked it three times with two hydrometers. Seems a bit high to me. Tasted the juice and it's really sweet. Of the 16 kits I have done this is the highest SG. I plan to add (after fermentation is underway) the unused raisins that come with the MMM limited kit that came with raisins and grape pack. Will that kick it up even higher? It does have an energizer pack, perhaps that's why? No oak dust, just untoasted shavings for secondary. Sure wish I had some extra oak dust to add in primary like Joeswine does.

Raisins are full of sugar so yep, that will raise the final ABV even more. Check your 6G mark on your bucket just to make sure you have the right amount of water added.

I have had 3 MM Renaissance kits with 1.10 starting SG but most are in the 1.09-1.096 range.

MM Renaissance kits are fairly high-end, Tony. I don't believe I would add the raisins myself. How will you know if the kit was very good untweaked?

When I was at FVW in Dallas I told George that I wanted to add the extra raisins to one of the kits I bought that day. He suggested this one over Cru Select Brunello, which I thought would have been the more obvious choice. So I dutifully followed his suggestion.

Agree the Renaissance Cab Shiraz kit is good.

Just bottled the Cru Select Brunello last week and it was the thickest wine we ever made with obvious legs all over the glass. The great Cru Select Shiraz kit bottled at the same time was thinner comparatively and my current favorite when aged. Am very interested in how this Brunello will develop over time, really just liked the brochure description so bought it without ever trying a commercial Brunello.

Just me but I wouldn't add raisins to anything other than an Italian red. I can taste the raisin in any kit I have added them to.

Mike, these were the extra raisins that came with the Mosti Mondiale Megloili Cab/Shiraz. I assume that they are Shiraz raisins. But I understand your point

I fully agree with Mike. The Meg. kits come with either raisins or a grape pack. If you ask for the grape pack, I believe it still includes the raisins.

You most likely will be able to taste the raisins, which IMO give the wine an oxidized sort of flavor.

I wouldn't ad then to a Cab/Shiraz, myself.
