I am thinking of making my second batch an Island Mist kit to get me through the temptations of drinking my first batch (WE Chard) prematurely. My only hesitation is the low "stock" ABV. What ABV can I expect if using the 1/2 F-pack and 3-4lb sugar mods? BTW...I am leaning towards the pinot or merlot if that makes a difference.

When I do IM kits I shoot for 10% abv. I add half the F-pack, stir the heck out of it, and check the sg. Then I add simple syrup a little at a time until I have an sg of about 1.080.

You wont want to use that much sugar and 1/2 the f-pack. I use just 3 1/2 lbs of sugar and end up with an sg right where I want it at 1.085ish.

Thanks for the info! Being a Newbie it is nice having a forum like this!!

Wasnt me, post it again there buddy, everyone wants to know what you said including me!

I just commented thatI thought that by adding 1/2 the F pack and 3-4 lbs sugar that he would end up with an ABV of around 11-12%

In loo of that add 1/2 the f pac and then just add sugar to the sg you want. Ive had different results myself but also as Appleman stated in a post awhile ago sugars have different weights so maybe Im using a different sugar or maybe my mind is slippingand I added more sugar then what I thought I did.

the only mist style kit that i added half the fpac up front to ended up horribly.

It was an orchard breeze blackberry merlot and it has a bit of a bitter aftertaste compared to the other wine cooler style kits i have made.

I wish i had more of the f pac left over to add as it would have masked the bitter aftertaste and made it drinkable.

I will however let it age for another 8 months before i use it to make punch with just to make sure it won,t come around.
