Am brand new and still learning. I am searching for books and recipes. Any help or advice is welcomed. Thanks. James

Welcome, You mite read thru some of the old posts. Not a book, but most of the problems with winemaking have been gone into and taken care of. If something happens with your winemaking and you have problems, don't be scared to jump in here someplace and get some answers. Somebody will almost always jump in and give you a hand. Good luck with your wines, Arne.

Hi James, welcome to the forum. Are you a German citizen, visiting, there on business or military? Are you near either the Rhine or the Mosel? I was stationed in Aschaffenburg in the late 1960's and spent a lot of time in the wine areas sampling the excellent Rhine and Mosel wines.

I am in the air force as a firefighter. I want to get the wine and beer making down pat before heading back to the states. I never liked wine until I had the German fruit wine so now I am attempting to learn what I can. I am about 45 mins from the Rhine river. I am stationed at Ramstein AB. I love being here but finding information and materials can be real difficult. I use amazon.com a lot but off base they have a store that sells wine making kits and it's in all German. There is a huge language barrier here as you can imagine and a ton of different opinions. Next I am looking for a list of what I need and the process for making berry wines. Blueberry strawberry ect. Thank you for the help

Books I suggest are "The Way to Make Wine," "From Vines to Wines," and "The American Wine Society Presents the Complete Handbook of Winemaking." The last one is written at a collegiate level of reading but there are some real gems in there. The first are written for an average level of reading. I would start with the first one to get the basics down. It includes alot of good recipes and basic ideas that are easy to understand. He has recipes for fruit wines as well. Well worth the money.

Hi, Mustang! My boyfriend was in Germany (Ingolstadt) about a year ago with the Canadian army. All I can say is that his taste in beer has improved a lot!

I borrowed The Way to Make Wine from the library and I find it a LOT easier to read than Home Wine-Making for Dummies. Let us know how it goes!

Welcome to the forum!
While in Germany look up Gutmann beer! If you like weisse beer it is one of the best.
As far as the language issue Google language tools is great for translating the German to English.
Thanks for serving!!

So I bought a bunch of stuff from my German wine store and none if it translates. All I can get is turbo yeast, yeast and yeast. One of them is suppose to be a sterilizer but I guess I will have to take the stuff to work to figure it out. Little bit of a language barrier here. I did end up getting a fruit bag so that's a plus and a brush to clean out my glass carboy jug thing
