Done with the picking. Have 20 lb. pie cherries ready to go. Picked, cleaned and destoned. Gonna see if it makes any difference in the taste having the stones gone as opposed to fermenting with the stones in. They are moving to the freezer for a couple of days, then on to the fermenters. Will keep you all informed how it works out. Probably gonna be a year or so before the final answer. Arne.

Removing the stones really helped my batches. Last two years, I removed stones by hand, this year I have a pitter, so I'm just waiting for them to ripen. Also trying a new home made picker that will make things a whole lot easier to reach the upper branches.

Thanks for reminding me about the picker. I was going to make one and forgotaboutit. Have to go back thru the posts and find it and get one made. It will be here for next year then. The birds have about finished up the cherries. I used a antique pitter that worked slick as can be. Can pit 4 or 5 lbs in about 10 minutes. Cleanup takes longer than the pitting. Well maybe it took a bit more than 10 min. but it was really fast. Picked currants yesterday, not gonna finish them. A few berries were good sized, but most were small. Not enough moisture this year and I didn't think to water them. Arne.
