Weren't cap guns great?!

I had a Thompson Submachine gun, cap gun that was the greatest. It held a roll of caps and had a windup spring. I had to load a roll, wind the spring and let 'er rip! Problem was I did not know enough about maintaining my weapon (my military service was years away) and the explosions of the caps finally fouled the mechanism so I had to use the piece with my own sound effects. It was not until my uncle, a veteran of the Pacific Theater, looked at it and saw the issue. He took it to his home and gave it a thorough cleaning and lubrication and it worked again for a while. I wish I had it now and I have never seen another one for sale on eBay or anywhere else.

My second memory of cap guns was a TV program called "Rocky King, Detective" starring Roscoe Karnes as Rocky King. You may remember the closing of every show with King talking to his wife on the phone, "Yes, Mabel, the case is closed and I am coming home." Well, King used a cap gun in the show and one could see the spent paper coming out of the top of the gun when he fired (and miss-fired) it. I am not sure why they did not use a prop gun with blanks but it was entertaining.

We had our first snow of the season this morning and I got a vivid perspective on how this weather phenomena is viewed. My Bride and I were taking the puppies out to do their business. Louie is 16 and it is easier to carry him out as he has trouble navigating the steps. Carlo, 14, is better able to deal with them. While I don't mind doing this, it is way down on my list of favorite things. In contrast, the two kids next door were happily chirping and having fun in the snow. I recalled a high school teacher I had who hated snow and called in "white puke." I am beginning to understand better his cynicism.

I grew up in central NY (Adirondack Mountains) and lived in Rochester NY for 2 years. After that we moved to Raleigh and the only place I like to see snow is on TV ...

First snow in Green Bay Wis This morning, thank goodness, it will melt this afternoon as I just was in the hospital for a battery replacement for my pacemaker and no strenuous exercise for a week.
It all started when Mr. Heart who lives on the top of the heart and Mrs. Heart who lives on the bottom had a wonder marriage for 60 years. Then they had a fight and stopped talking with each other and skipped of few beats with Mrs. Heart being the instigator (skipping more beats). Enter the pacemaker to give them a little jolt when they start acting up and go below 60 beats/minute. Now they are living happily ever after. Good for another 7-8 years.
