The next wine I make may be an apple wine, from apple juice purchased from a grocery. I would like to make a wine similiar in taste to a riesling.

could I make a good dry wine or semi sweet wine that way?

Certain Rieslings have a "green apple" background taste to me and I really like them. Just my opinion, but I think a wine made from just apple juice would have too much apple taste to approximate a Riesling, but it would still be a very good wine.

I have made Riesling using a kit and adding a dozen or so Granny Smith apples which I juiced in my juicer. It gave me what I was looking for and I kept it on the dry side.

Thanks Rocky. I think it would be good. Gonna try it as dry or semi sweet. Maybe just a gallon at first.

ON second thought, I just read a thread on wine from grocery store apple juice and it looks like I will go with 5 gallons.

I would have to agree with Rocky here on the flavor. I have made several batches of apple wine from grocery store apple juice that have turned out well.

I used a generic apple juice from Walmart to make a wine with redhot candy in it and I feel it has a similar taste to a nice Riesling. Turned out very well, enjoying a glass as I type and watching Home Alone. Has the makings of a good evening LOL.
