I got my first refractometer last month. I have some must that started fermentation September 3. Brix reading and hydrometer started out consistent but now the hydrometer says .992 and the refractometer says 10 Brix. (Temp was 80.) Obviously a discrepancy now. Assuming no calibration issues is this normal?

The presence of alcohol will distort the refractometer reading. It does not measure the correct brix once alcohol starts to be formed. There are spreadsheets with the formula to calculate the actual brix from the refractometer reading based on your starting brix and current reading. But the best practice is to use your hydrometer to measure.
