RJ Spagnols Cru Select Brunello Update:

I started this kit in Jan. I followed the instructions pretty much to the letter with the exception of adding sorbate.
It had been aging in a carboy for approx 4 months, at this point, I put it into my 23 liter Vadai barrel.

I decided to check to see if I needed to top it off at all, and to taste it......Holy Lord! This Brunello is so close to the commercial Brunello that I have drank, it is unbelievable!

Brunello is one of my favorite varieties of wine, I purchase a lot of Brunello, to be honest, I have just about a dozen bottles in my "wine cellar", and ironic enough, my wife and I were just at friends house on Friday evening, they make pizza, and I usually bring a different bottle of wine to sample with my buddy, I am trying to open his eyes to different varieties, and this Friday, I brought a $65.00 bottle, not crazy expensive, but a decent bottle, it had won a medal in 2012.

The Brunello in the barrel has taken on so many great characteristics, I tasted the plum notes and the tannic astringency at the end.

I am pleasantly surprised that it is developing into such a good wine.
So for anyone considering this Kit, I highly recommend it. I know the barrel has a lot to do with it, but if you can make great wine by adding a barrel to the process, I certainly would!

Good to hear this. I too am a big Brunello fan and have spent a small fortune on Brunello in the past. Especially Brunello di Montalcino and sense Im not a millionaire this is great news!!. This will be my next purchase!!

Tess, Brunello di Montalcino is one of my weaknesses. ...lol!
Check out www.wtso.com, they sell wine at up to 70% off! No gimmicks or membership to buy.
I've purchased some fairly expensive bottles (for my budget) at great prices, the best so far was a $150.00 bottle of Brunello for $39.00, and a few bottles of Amarone, Barolo, Valpolicella, Barbaresco and so on, each in the $65 - $75 range, for under $35.
Not only can I open a good bottle of wine on a regular basis while I wait for mine to age, it puts things into perspective when I question if a wine that I'm making is on the right track.

Tess:

Be careful with that WTSO link. Like winemaking, it can be addictive. :D

Gads, I think my wife is as hooked on them as I am. We had to put each other on restriction for awhile. :b

I feel like a million bucks when I can pick up a couple bottles!! to be able to make my own!! OMG!! All I can say!! lol

Thanks so much for the link!!!
Im checking it out now!!! In my perfect world this runs out of my water spout!!! Sighhhhhh!!!

I'm glad that you like it! Beware, wed is "cheapskate wed" a new wine every 15 mins and I believe the prices will be capped at $15!

I stand corrected, on wed, all wine will be between $7.99 - $18.99, a new wine every 15 mins......wooohooo!

Oh wow, I can see how this site can get you in trouble lol Heck with my phone bill It can be late :)
