My wife gave me a Rose kit for Christmas. This is my first kit. I pitched the yeast last night and there was plenty of action this morning. I just have a couple of questions:

1) the starting SG was 1.080 - isn't that a bit low?

2) the instruction say nothing about stiring. With fruit, country, and garage wines you typically "punch-down" a couple time a day. With a kit is there no stirring?

Thanks,
Skinny

If the kit instructions don't say to stir, it isn't necessary. It will not hurt to stir it once or twice a day if you want to give the yeast a bit of extra oxygen. That SG isn't really low for a rose. You don't want overpowering alcohol with a light wine.

Thanks appleman.

This is my first kit. I asked for the Rose because I hear that kits are thin. I thought a thin Rose wouldn't be bad.

First, often it is easier to give proper answers if we know which kit you are asking about.

1.sg low for some kits, probably OK for others.

2. Vigourous stirring is usually recommended prior topitching the yeast, but not afterwards unless there is something floating (such as grape skins, oak tea bag, elderberries.
