From my cell phone...

Things bad in nj.

No water, heat, or power since Monday.
Downed power lines and trees block our way out so can't get anywhere.
Cell phone recharge by running my car in driveway but only have 1/8 tank of gas left.
No open gas stations anywhere close by.

I am bored mostly, but getting by.

Hope all of you are safe. it is so bad that I may even have some welches! Lol.

Miss all of you guys!

JohnT

wow, if you are considering welch's, john. then things are REALLY bad for you....lol....hope things get better soon....looking forward to you being back...

Oh, I get it. Doh. Sandy the hurricane. Dang I feel dense.

If it will make you feel better I'm making a batch of white grams raspberry from welches right now.

Sorry to hear that John. Hopefully things get back to normal for you soon. I went through that hell last year with the nor'easter. Lost power for 10 days. It makes you realize how much we take electricity for granted these days.

John thanks for checking in and giving us the update. Sorry to hear that buddy and the pictures of th damage on the news are unbelievabe. Take care of yourself and family and keep us posted. By the way I work right down the road from the Welches plant if you need some 50 gallon plastic drums to build raft LOL (don't laugh too hard I did that about ten years ago for a benefit race on Lake Erie).

I'm been thinking about you JohnT, glad you had a chance to post. I know there isn't anything I could do for you but if there is you know all you have to do is ask.

And JohnT seriously, desperate times does not mean desperate measures, :ft just go down into your wine cellar that should cure you of the Welch's. :)

In 04 Hurricane Charlie did regional damage here and we were without power for 11 days in August. As bad as that steamy camping out was I cant imagine doing it in freezing weather. Best to evacuate to somewhere where there is power if you can get away. Good luck

Reminds me of the storm we had here in Seattle, in January..

Snow (5-6 inches), sleet, hail, rain... 70+ mph winds
No power & no way out for about 4 days at my house, some people up to 3 weeks
Freezing temps, mid-high 20's
Hand to eat, what we had on hand & charged the phones in the car
Plus an autistic family member

Hang tough, JohnT - it'll get better
It's definitely a humbling experience, something like that

That really sucks John. I dealt with that awhile back and said no more! I took the wallet and went and bought a generator that time and have never looked back. It hurts then but now after 4 times using it during storms I dont regret it 1 bit at all. I can live life normally!!!! Sorry, dont mean to rub it in, just saying its worth it to spend the money so that next time and there will be many next times you dont have to deal. I keep 5 - 5gallon cans of gas on hand with Stabil in it and rotate them through the year with lawnmower, snow blower, chainsaw and such.

John,
I'm sitting here in my freezing living room with a glass of Red Ice Wine (yeah, I'm that sick) and my cell phone. Cant wait for my power to come back also. With my luck it will come back just on time to go out with next weeks noreaster coming in!!
I am not that far from you if you need me to bring you some gas let me know.
Cheers,
Dave

Folks,

THanks for all of your kind thoughts!

A buddy of mine in Port Jervis has power so we re-located ourselves to upstate new york. MAN DID THAT SHOWER FEEL GOOD!!!!

He has power, heat, water, all of the things that I have been taking for granted.

Wine-o, thanks so much for the offer of gas. I do not have a generator, so the gas would have not done me much good.

They still have no word on when the power might come back on. It is funny how we have not seen anybody even start the repairs in our area. I realize that my town is "first in taxes, but last in assistance".

Here is just one picture of what was blocking out way out. I live on a 1 mile circle, and this is the only exit off that circle. This is 7 rather large pine trees that took out all power and blocked our escape to the real world. Affter 4 days with no word from anyone, the men of our circle banded together and cut our way out. It took us 2 days. The funny part is that (after 6 days) a cop finally showed up and cussed us for it.

No power here either

I have not had power since the 30th & best estimates are the 8th. I do have a generator, but it takes 12 gallons/day to run. Luckily they got power on to the the town proper - So I no longer have to drive to Morgantown (12 miles) to get gas for the genny. Am now shopping around for a whole-house gen with auto transfer. 96% of the residents in my county had power off for at least 3 days. I was one of the "lucky ones" we only got 12-14 inches of very wet heavy snow - the higher elevations to the east and into Garrett Co MD got 3 feet or so. Other than power biggest problem was closed roads due to snow/trees.

Man I hope this Noreaster doesnt screw with you guys. Looks like its going to have some decent winds (55 mph) and 4' storm surge near the shore just to humiliate those already in big trouble. Looks like more tree cutting for me.
