My LHBS (Northern Brewer) had a sale yesterday and today, which @richmke kindly alerted me to. The sale was (or actually is, 'til midnight tonight) 20% off of ONE item. I did not know what kind of kit I was in the mood to do next, so I went to the store to browse. Rich had me interested in the WE LE Aussie Shiraz/Viognier.
It turns out that they had a few surprises in stock. In addition to the LE Shiraz/Viognier, they also had the WE LE Super Tuscan. I was also interested in trying the Eclipse Lodi Ranch 11 Cab. And then, I spied that they had two CC Showcase Red Mountain Cabs! Choices choices.
I decided I could get the Eclipse kit any day, so I eliminated that. Finally, I decided that since I am going to Tuscany soon, I would get the Super Tuscan. I was kind of thinking of nabbing the Red Mountain Cab at full price anyway, since it is reputed to be out of stock until next year. I decided to just go with the Super Tuscan for now.
I was waiting at the register for the cashier, who was helping a young lady with a homebrewing setup within earshot of me. She was wavering on buying a corny keg setup along with some other stuff, and, in an attempt to seal the deal, the sales guy offered her 20% off on BOTH of her expensive items. He left her to think about it, and went to ring me up.
I looked at him and said "Would you do 20% off of two items for me, or is that just for the ladies?" We looked at each other uncomfortably for about 20 seconds, and then he folded. "Sure, I can make that happen." So I bolted over and grabbed the Red Mountain Cab kit tout-de-suite.
I got each of these kits for $136. Not my best bargain ever, but not too shabby.
