I have 5 of them and use them on and off in barrels I have drilled a hole in to vent them. They work fine, but you can't see the action like the bubbling types. They have a use in my setup.

I use one of these in my 23 ltr barrel. Mine is already drilled and vented as is the one you linked to. In carboys I use universal bungs and three piece air lock.

Dave; I waited to see what others thought before I replied, but I have used these for quit awhile and really like them. Try some and see what you think.

Thanks for the replies, all. And thanks for the suggestion, rendezvous! My purpose for these would be for bunk aging only. I'll keep to the standard two-chamber, solution-filled airlocks for fermentation purposes.

Waterless air lock

I have a handfull of these in transit from Valley Vitners. Also for use in bulk aging. Once I can see exactly how they work, i will decide if I trust them or not.

I have a set up for making soda pop at home which is really just a CO2 dispenser. I would like to use this top to purge with CO2, then let it close to seal the Carboy. I worry about airlocks going dry.

I will post a note on how it works. Valley Vitners is usualy a bit slow to ship from my experience.

I like to forget about what is in the bulk aging room, so it actually does get to age.
