im thinking of opening a winery down the line and i have some questions, maybe somebody here knows the answers. i know i need a small winery license to sell my wine and that will allow me to make and sell up to 50,000 a year. im making way less. my goal is to make about 2000 gallons a year in a few years. to put things in perspective i made 39 this year. my question is would my winery license entitle me to sell other brand wines also? that way i could grow at a comfortable pace. in the beginning ill sell other brands like any wine store and ill feature my own wine also of course and as i grow ill phase out the other wines and focus more on selling my own wine.

also would a winery license cover beer also or would i need a separate brewery license?

i need a federal license besides the state license to sell wine? in state not gonna traffic from state 2 state...

ok so youre right about the federal license and i looked into the michigan law and the law states the winery license permits me to sell wine that i manufactured so that rules out selling other wine maybe beer too. im not sure i can do what i had in mind then

the winery license allows already for a tasting room without any other license besides a food license if u want to serve food also

Why are you asking a total bunch of unknown strangers legal advice?

Thats just crazy.

Get a lawyer that specializes in those laws and be done with it.

im not actually making decisions based on this discussion just speculating

First, in order to produce wine for sale, you will need a bonded Federal winery license. Then you need to have whatever license your state requires. In order to sell your winery's wine for consumption depends on your state laws for your winery license AND any local jurisdictions you might be in. If you are not located in a city jurisdiction, that would make it easier. If you are in a city, they may require you to have an alcohol sales permit for your winery. If you want to sell other products (beer, wine) that are not your production, you would definitely need to have some kind of alcohol sales permitting from your city and/or county. Also, you will need to check into your local county health regulations for operating a facility.

That's just a start. If you know of similar businesses that do what you want to do, I would suggest you go talk to them about what it requires.

I could tell you what I needed to do to be able to do as you want, however I did not because I am sure it is not the same in your state. Here I can sell my wine and that produced by other wineries. I can also sell beer made by microbreweries (although I don't). NY has made it easier for us to be able to do these things, but it all comes with a cost.

please share im very interested in ny also i split time between ny and mi

Ask some small wineries in you state, they'll tell you more than you probably want to know. bk
