So, can I use this for primary, then go to carboy? I am thinking it would not allow me to suck the sludge off the bottom of the primary as much.

Yes, you can use that as a primary. I have that exact same conical. His shipping rate is high. If you got it for the price it is at now though it would be a good deal. I think those normally sell for around $225 new.

There are advantages but they are not real necessary. First advantage is stainless steel. Always a fermentation advantage. Next is the ability to dump the lees without racking. You can have almost all the lees gone when you rack to a secondary.If you made wine a lot this is nice as you could actually re-pitch this into another batch.If you used some CO2 you could use it as a primary and secondary.
