It is nice to see the sun shining this morning after nothing but snow yesterday!

Suppose to be 65 here today, and then on tuesday freezing again...Im in the gardening mood, yet it deflates every time a cold front comes through.
When does your spring normally start for your area , julie.

James, it should start to warm up by March that doesn't mean we won't get a snow in March and for growing nothing until May and lately that is iffy, we seem to get a damaging freeze in the middle of May anymore.

Paul, that is what it was like here yesterday, being in a snow globe. It was kinda nice and since we have jeeps, naturally, we didn't stay put, we went driving around, roads were greasey.

The snow was kinda bizarre in quality. It was light, fluffy, incredibly insubstantial. We had about 6", and when walking through it, the drag of the snow on your feet was almost imperceptible. When I was shoveling, the shovel felt no heavier with a full shovel then without it. It was like cartoon snow, or something they would come up with at a theater to represent snow.

We have a blizzard warning today - the worst of the season, they say. AND, the temps are going to plummet down to -25°F. AND, our gas pipeline feeding the area in Manitoba Canada exploded yesterday and they are now calling for us to turn our furnaces down and conserve gas, lest we have an outage. Should be a good day for wine drinking!

Holy Cow Greg, do you have a second source of heat? We have a hot water boiler but it is hardly used, with woods all around us, we put in a wood burner 15 years ago and I love it! Keeps it nice a toasty and it is nice watching the fire on these cold winter nights. Your cold weather will be hitting us around Wednesday.

Be safe Greg. It's cold here in NW indiana but we don't have a gas issue (we eat a lot of beans). Stay warm.

Hey Greg, saw pics of the explosion. State of emergency in several southern Manitoba towns right now, especially with the -40C type weather. Stay warm, and take care. It's dangerous out there.

Our gas supplies are back to normal now. I hear they've had more difficulties in Canada with direct disruption of gas. Makes you wonder how prepared we need to be. I do have a wood-burning stove insert in my fireplace. But I did NOT stock up on wood this year, so I am out. Glad we didn't have an outage. I'll definitely be stocking up for next year.

So,, anyone taking advantage and doing some COLD stabilization?? Should be able to grow a good crop of diamonds this week LOL!!

While it's said to be in the best interest of our children, I'm sure a lot of us "elder folk" cannot recall school closing due to a little cold snap. Why the proverbial "double-dog-dare" would not be if we were forced to stay home!!! Enjoy your day off Julie!!

Wish I did have the day off, Gary. This is the great thinking here, if we do not use any of the scheduled snow days, than administrators get those days off, paid. If we use any of those days, like today, administrators are required to work. I'm thinking this is a little lopsided!!!!

Well for the second time in 7 days, we are getting sleet and snow, with temps in the low 30s.....How in the heck, do i fish and surf in that, with all the clothes on...I looked like ralphys little brother just to go put bird food out.

My friend's son did the old 'lick the metal door knob' yesterday. It was -40C! Poor little guy. It wasn't so bad after the bleeding stopped - everyone has to try it once I guess.
