I had to go up in the attic to do some wiring, and I found this - a complete kit I bought in the early '90s to make beer. Never did use it. New hydrometer, funnel, mesh bag, airlock, the whole nine yards, unused. LOLOLOL.... it's never too late!

I'd probably discard the yeast and get a new batch.;)

No yeast but the badly yellowed airlock and tubing hit the trash can, for sure. I'm toss a brew in there Tuesday night, maybe. Turns out it's 6 gallons! I was surprised.

Fermentation buckets are generally 6.5 gallons to account for krausen. I'd be leery of going much smaller than that. I've had krausen come up through the airlock and block things up to the point that it sprayed out a nice sticky ring of krausen when I pulled the airlock to relieve pressure. I imagine if it had gone a couple hours longer the lid would have blown off.
