Many forums have a "Today I learned" thread to feature to highlight interesting facts that the poster recently came across.

My contribution: We all know about Chaptalization, the term for adding sugar to the must to increase the alcohol content. Many of us know that this is named for Jean-Antoine Chaptal, a French polymath and, importantly, agronomist. Today I learned that our hero's name is actually inscribed (along with 71 other notable French scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and industrialists) on the sides of the Eiffel tower! These are large enough to see from ground level, although I have never noticed them.

What interesting thing have you learned lately?

I learned a new word POMACE
